Rabbi-Cantor Nancy Diamond Landsman is the founding spiritual leader of Congregation Ahavat Olam, since its inception in 2012.
Before her rabbinic ordination from JSLI in January of 2016, she had a successful cantorial career of 33 years. A graduate of Northern Illinois University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work with a minor in Music, her emphasis was in Gerontology.
Rabbi Nancy’s passion for Jewish worship and music, thirst for learning, love of teaching and helping others, and contagious enthusiasm led her to pursue additional education, specifically in Clinical Pastoral Care. Specializing in bereavement, with her hospice and chaplain experiences, Rabbi Nancy brings great comfort to individuals and families before, during and after death. Officiating over one hundred funerals each year, countless weddings (including interfaith and same gender), and B’nai Mitzvah, Rabbi Nancy is in high demand for officiating all life cycle services for members and non-members.
Rabbi Nancy is honored to lead Congregation Ahavat Olam, a unique congregation where all are welcome to attend the services, programs and classes. She is grateful to Cantor Joanna Lind for joining the Congregation in 2017, by co-leading the majority of the worship services.
Cantor Joanna P. Lind is the sixth generation Lind family cantor following her grandfather, Cantor Dale Lind, and his father, Hazan Joshua Lind.
At her family’s independent congregation, Sons of Joshua, Cantor Lind became the nation’s youngest Cantorial Soloist at age seven and later joined the choir. She was ordained through JSLI in a multi-denominational program and has led Shabbat and High Holiday services for Reform, Conservative, and Renewal congregations in the Chicagoland area.
Currently, Cantor Lind performs life cycle events independently and has found a home as the cantor for Congregation Ahavat Olam, a wonderful community led by Rabbi Cantor Nancy Landsman. Cantor Lind strives to keep her family’s musical heritage alive, to be of service especially to those who are independent or disenfranchised within the Jewish community, and to use her gifts to enhance her human community as a whole. Outside of her religious calling, she is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, performer, and writer.
